Greek shipowner Evangelos Marinakis is said to have contacted shipyards in South Korea and China for a series of 12,500-teu newbuildings.

The exact number of vessels has not been disclosed, but shipbuilding sources suggest it to be at least six firm newbuildings plus options.

Marinakis is said to be looking to order conventional ships but has the option to upgrade them to dual-fuelled vessels at a later date.
