Contracts for a quintet of newbuildings at Dae Sun Shipbuilding have now taken effect after refund guarantees for the vessels were finally issued after a months-long wait.
Shipbuilding sources said the nine-month delay reflected the challenge that South Korea’s “second-tier” shipyards face in getting local banks to issue refund guarantees as finance houses are trying to reduce their exposure to the sector.
