Shipping might not have been in the rudest of health over the past decade, but it has not stopped the industry from spending over $1trn on tonnage.
The figures, compiled by Clarksons, combine the total estimated contract value of newbuildings ordered between 2009 and the end of 2018 and added to the total reported value of secondhand sales in the same period.
