UK broker Braemar had a lower salary bill as its tanker and bulker desks experienced differing fortunes in the latest financial year.
The London-listed operation said staff numbers were up 7% to 409 at 29 February, including 250 brokers.
Wages totalled £97m ($123m), down from £100m the year before.
