Ship recyclers across the Indian subcontinent have been raising their price offerings over the past week, although some brokers appear unconvinced that the underlying domestic markets for recycled steel will be able to sustain such levels.
Both India and Bangladesh have pushed demolition market levels to above the $600-per-ldt mark for tankers, although, based on the most recently reported sales, price offerings for bulk carriers remain below that threshold — but are creeping upwards.
