Washington State Ferries (WSF) has offloaded its oldest ferry for a new service in the Caribbean.

The US state owner said the 2,000-gt Evergreen State (built 1954) has gone to Jones Broadcasting for $300,000.

It will start a new life in the protected waters of the southern Caribbean.

"The Evergreen State is a special ferry," said WSF chief of staff Elizabeth Kosa.

"It was the first vessel custom-built for Washington State Ferries in 1954.
