Scale is key to the Windship project in many ways — from the size of the technology to plans to create huge fleets with the biggest ship operators and charterers.
Previous wind sail inventions have been too small, according to technical director Simon Rogers. “The technology needs to be big. It starts to work for bulk carriers and tankers at about 35,000 dwt,” he says.
