The country’s supreme court has ruled that the 214,000-dwt Oriental Nicety (built 1986) can be imported to India for scrapping by Priya Blue Industries at Alang.
The bulker better known as the tanker Exxon Valdez was purchased by cash buyer Best Oasis for $460 per ldt in March in a deal worth $15.8m to the ship’s last owner, Cosco.
Demolition of the Oriental Nicety will now begin this week but will take the rest of this year to complete.
