State-owned Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) is confident it can win INR 200bn ($2.95bn) of new orders this year.

The ministry of defence looks likely to award the yard contracts to build five support ships, as well as two mini-submarines and two landing docks.

Its net profit was INR 200m in the 2015-16 financial year, the Hindu reported.

“By increasing productivity and ensuring optimum utilisation of manpower and facilities", management was able to turn around the company, HSL managing director LV Sarat Babu said.
