Michael Gotsis of Greece is tipped to have swept up an aframax from public Indian owner Varun Shipping.
Brokers believe Gotsis backed Eurotankers has won the race for the 106,000-dwt Ocean Mare (built 2006).
A price of around $27m is being placed on the tanker which is understood to have been inspected by three potential buyers.
If confirmed, it would mark Eurotankers’ first purchase since late 2014, when it paid $12.5m
