Four Alang-based yards have been independently certified by the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS).
Priya Blue Industries, Shree Ram Vessel Scrap, RL Kalathia Ship Breaking and Leela Ship Recycling are the four facilities that IRS has endorsed as compliant with European Union (EU)’s shipbreaking standards.
This could open the way for European-flagged ships to be demolished in India.
It follows visits from EU and European shipowners’ representatives over the past month.
