State-owned fund Finnish Industry Investments paid EUR 9.3m ($12.8m) for 66.4% of Aker Arctic Technology from financially troubled STX Europe, it said today.
ABB and Norway’s Aker Engineering and Technology own the remaining third of the ship designer equally between them.
STX is offloading assets having lost over $1bn on its loan-financed purchase of STX Europe, formerly Aker Yards, in 2008.
The Korean company recently announced the closure of one of its two shipyards in Finland with the loss of 700 jobs.
