The New York-listed bulker owner submitted the winning bid for the 82,200-dwt Valeria Della Gatta (built 2009), which will be renamed Maia upon delivery, at an auction in France.
According to a statement the price tag weighed in at EUR 14.755m ($19.7m), which represents a discount of around $1.2m when compared to what the VesselsValue.com database believes the ship to be worth in today’s market.
In addition, Diana said it has chartered the 93,200-dwt Alcmene (built 2010) to ADM International for a period of 18 to 24 months at rate of $7,250 per day less a 5% commission paid to third parties.
The company also announced a fixture involving the 75,100-dwt Danae (built 2001), which was hired by Intermare Transport of Germany for $8,250 for 18 to 22 months in a deal that included a similar payout to an unidentified third party.
“The employments of the Alcmene and the Danae are anticipated to generate a total of approximately $8.26m of gross revenue for the minimum scheduled period of the charters,” Diana told investors Thursday.
When the smoke clears, the Athens-based company will oversee a fleet of 32 bulkers. The stable includes 17 panamaxes, a pair of kamsarmaxes, three post-panamaxes, eight capesizes and two newcastlemaxes in addition to newbuildings due for delivery in the fourth quarter.
