Shipowners who try to beat the deadline for China’s new shipping import rules are taking a big risk, sale-and-purchase brokers warn.
This week, China’s Ministry of Transport announced regulations requiring all imported ships to be compliant with IMO Tier II emissions standards from 1 September.
The move in effect makes a decade’s-worth of ships ineligible for sale to Chinese domestic buyers, the mainstay of the veteran secondhand bulker market.
