Industry sources in the US and Europe say the 299,700-dwt Universal Peace (built 1995) was sold for scrap but the claim could not be immediately verified at the time of writing Friday.
According to Compass Maritime Services the vessel commanded a rate of around $475 per ldt, which suggests the South Korean operator pocketed approximately $19.2m.
In a weekly market briefing the US brokerage told clients the Universal Peace was sold “as in” in Singapore but admitted it was unsure about the final destination.
