A European customer has signed up for the pair of 4,500 squaremetre vessels at a cost of $28.5m each.
Both vessels will be built at Cosco’s 51% owned GuangdongShipyard for delivery in the third and fourth quarters of 2015, the Singapore-listedshipbuilder said in a statement.
Though it did not name the owner behind the contract, Coscohas only ever received orders for four livestock carriers, all from Dutchowner Vroon in 2011.
