In a weekly client briefing the Athens-based brokerage pointed out that approximately 231 vessels were torched in the first quarter of 2014.
Of these, the firm believes roughly 55 were containerships, which means this type of tonnage accounted for nearly 25% of the overall total.
Citing recent channel checks the company indicated 54 general cargoships, 45 tankers and 42 bulkers were scrapped during the same period.
