The 25 crew from the 20,600–dwt IBC-owned Blida (built 1978) were freed in November 2011 after a reported $2m ransom payment.
The seafarers have obtained an interim court order in Mombasa, Kenya, stopping the owner from receiving any payment from its sale.
The bulker was sold for $1m at the request of the crew after they lost contact with IBC.
The abandoned men include 10 Ukrainians and three Kenyans.
