One ferry was sunk and another driven aground in the Philippines after typhoon Nina ravaged the island archipelago over the Christmas period.
One passenger is reported dead and another eight missing after the 1,500-gt Starlite Atlantic (built 1975) sank on 26 December.
The incident involving the Philippines-flagged vessel reportedly occurred near Tingloy Island, Batangsa Bay. Fourteen passengers and crew were rescued.
In a separate incident the 6,105-gt Supper Shuttle RoRo 5 (built 1980) was driven aground by typhoon Nina on 26 December off the Mabini coast in Batangas province.
