The cause of the blaze on the vessel, believed to be JuthaMaritime’s 12,667-dwt Fredensborg (built 2011), is unknown.
Firefighters used carbon dioxide instead of water to dousethe flames to prevent adding more weight for fear of sinking the vessel, Saher Tahlawi,director general of the port, told local media outlets.
The fire was confined to the ship and investigators arecurrently assessing the extent of the damage.
