The owner and master of the 24,000-dwt multipurpose vessel Pacific Adventurer (built 1991) are to defend allegations that poor maintenance and other failures led to a high profile oil spill in Australian waters last year.
The trial is not due to take place until next year but four companies linked to the ship and the Filipino master of the vessel, Capt Bernardino Gonzales Santos (48) were indicted today at a Brisbane court.
Lawyers representing Santos along with Swire Navigation and Bluewind Shipping joint owners of the Pacific Adventurer, charterer Swire Shipping and ship manager China Navigation indicated all would fight the charges.
