The transition to implementing a 0.5% cap on sulphur content in ship fuels by 2020, decided this week by the International Maritime Organization (IMO),”will not be a ‘walk in the park,’” says shipowners’ organisation Bimco.
Bimco says it respects the decision by the MEPC for a 2020 implementation of the low limits but also notes “concerns raised by a number of IMO member states about availability of fuel oil in some regions of the world and the ability of their refineries to respond adequately.”
