A shipowner has been taken to task over endangering the lives of two crew members by having them work on deck during adverse weather conditions.
The UK P&I Club said the incident took place on a fully laden bulk carrier which was on passage in the Mediterranean Sea last winter.
The bosun and a cadet were reportedly instructed to wash down the vessel’s main deck and hatch covers of cargo dust which had accumulated during the previous cargo loading operation.
