TheGerman insurance giant puts total ship losses for 2013 at 94, a 20% reductionon the 117 reported the previous year and figures above 170 a decade ago.
Butthe numbers are not insurance industry derived statistics, but appear to be basedon news reports and other less than systematic sources.
Thefigures relate to vessels over 100 gross tons where there is a world fleet ofsome 55,000 vessels and if the statistics are reasonably sound the total lossrate is 0.17%.
