Samsung Heavy Industries has been told to stop work at its Geoje shipyard after a crane collapse killed six employees on Monday.
The government said operations must be suspended following the accident, which also injured 25 other workers, the Yonhap news agency reported.
This kind of order from the labour ministry usually lasts two weeks.
Korean reports said one crane hit another before falling on to a production platform under construction at the yard.
