The Costamare containership Rena, fast aground in the Bay of Plenty in New Zealand, is starting to crack up.
Maritime sources in the country report that the condition of the vessel has deteriorated.
The 3,032-teu Rena (built 1990) is fracturing longitudinally between 3 and 4 holds, and the cargo bulkhead between 3 and 4 holds is failing.
The hull is breached from right forward to the after end of number 3 hold.
