According to the US Coast Guard (USCG)approximately 31,500 gallons of light crude ended up in the Mississippi Riveras a result of the smash between the tank barge E2MS 303 (built 2013) and a tugcalled the Lindsay Ann Erickson (built 1982).

The lower portion of the river has since been reopenedbut officials say a stretch between mile marker 130 and 155 is still closed tocommercial traffic, which has led to a queue of nearly 30 vessels that arewaiting to transit the river.
