A petition demanding action by governments worldwide to protect ships and their crews against pirate hijacking has secured 920,000 signatories.
The petition has been handed to International Maritime Organisation secretary general, Efthimios Mitropoulos, and will also go to various national governments.
The response is much higher than when the petition was launched by a wide range of shipping organisation four months ago with a target of attracting 500,000 names.
