A car carrier controlled by Gram Car Carriers (GCC) ran aground after losing steering in the Columbia River.
The Norwegian shipowner’s 4,200-ceu Viking Emerald (built 2012) suffered the grounding near Woodland, Washington, Saturday afternoon.
Local resident Jim Lichatowich told The Oregonian newspaper that he saw the ship with its bow on a beach.
The ship was headed from Tacoma to Portland when the incident took place.
