London high court judge, Justice Andrew Smith, has found for the owner of the Greek managed vessel in an 80,000 word ruling that details all that went wrong with the unfortunate Irene EM.
The 35,000-dwt Irene EM (built 1980), part of the fleet managed by Piraeus based Chian Spirit Maritime Enterprises, was detained for five months by Somali pirates.
Then six weeks later the vessel became a total loss.
