The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said a mission to recover the voyage data recorder (VDR) from the sunken cargoship El Faro will set out in July.
The US Navy ship Apache will again be used along with the CURV-21 remotely operated underwater vehicle.
Investigators turned the the US Navy Supervisor of Salvage to assist in the recovery mission after working in May with scientists and deepwater recovery experts to determine how best to bring up the device.
