A Mumbai court has refused to lift the detention of a Reederei Nord containership despite a $10m bank guarantee being offered to try to secure the ship’s freedom.
The 1,524-teu Nordlake (built 1994) had the misfortune to sink an Indian navy frigate in a collision ten months ago and has been caught in a legal quagmire ever since.
The 2,682 displacement tons INS Vindhyagiri (commissioned 1981) caught fire, capsized and sank following the collision although there were no human casualties.
