A small multi-purpose vessel grounded in rough seas off a Greek island and its crew was airlifted to safety.

The 5,555-dwt Cabrera (built 2007) hit the rocks north of Andros on Friday with nine seafarers onboard.

It was en route from Greece’s Larymna to Finland, laden with 3,500 metric tons of ferronickel.

Severe weather conditions did not allow tugs to approach the grounded ship, which is owned by Germany’s Reederei Erwin Strahlmann.
