Nigerian militants could launch “attention-grabbing statement attacks” on maritime assets if the country’s government fails to hold up its end of an amnesty agreement, a report has claimed.

The region’s most notorious militant group has, however, “lost its forward operational capacity” which may ultimately render renewed threats of attacks hollow, the security report added.

Media reports in Nigeria this week claimed that security at Lagos port facilities has been stepped up as the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) issued credible threats against maritime assets.
