An ambitious plan to retain more risk is already yielding benefits for Danish shipping giant AP Moller Maersk.

Keeping risk within the group’s newly created Copenhagen captive Maersk Insurance is leading to a culture change according to the company’s insurance chief, Lars Henneberg.

The move to retain risk is creating a mindset focussed on the threat posed by risk rather than the transfer of the risk to a commercial underwriter Henneberg told TradeWinds Marine Risk Forum in London.
