French reports said the stern section containing theaccommodation block broke away and partially sank during the night at Bayonne.
Another section has been pushed on to the breakwater thatcaused its demise on Wednesday, while the fore part has beached.
A meeting was scheduled for Thursday morning at which ownerMurueta Naviera was to submit its salvage plan.
Some diesel has leaked from the 4,600-dwt vessel(built 1994), which suffered an electrical power failure, French authorities said.
