Dramatic photographs of a grounded Torvald Klaveness containership published on a Chinese website have revealed the extent of damage suffered by the ship.
The 3,100-teu Bareli (built 2004) is low in the water with a gaping crack in the hull that appears to be perhaps three metres wide at deck level.
The scale of damage suggests that a wreck removal is a more likely outcome than a salvage operation although Klaveness, charterer CMA CGM, the Gard insurance group and the Chinese authorities are still assessing the situation.
