Increasing amounts of heavy fuel oil continue to flow from the boxship Rena, stranded off Tauranga, New Zealand’s largest container port.
The hard-aground forward half of the ship is open to the sea with no buoyancy left. The after half is afloat and working in the swell. Cracks are widening on both sides of the hull between the two sectors.
