A fire has erupted in the engine room of a Maersk Line-owned vessel off Ireland.

The blaze originated from an auxiliary engine of the 2,902-teu Maersk Pembroke (built 1998) in the early hours of 22 August, Maersk Line confirmed.

The UK coastguard has been contacted and the fire has been contained and extinguished, the company added.

All 22 crew members onboard are safe and no environmental effect has been reported.
