The fire on the 1,958 berth vessel was confined to an aft mooring area on deck three but there are as yet no reports of the extent of damage.
A Carnival cruiseship was on standby in case there was a need to evacuate passengers and crew.
No casualties or injuries were however reported as a result of the fire, which occurred off Florida, as the vessel was bound for the Bahamas.
