According to local media reports the 16,750-cbm Golden Miller (ex-Fezzano, built 1993) was moored at the Tequimar terminal in Aratu when the incident first began to unfold.
Of the 15 crew members who are believed to have been on board at the time officials say only two suffered serious injuries but did not indicate whether the duo required hospitalisation.
It’s unclear whether fire-fighters were able to extinguish the blaze on Tuesday night or Wednesday morning but photos from local news stations suggest a team of tugs were still dousing the ship with water cannons just hours ago.
