A top US Coast Guard inspector said he was concerned by problems found on the sistership of Tote Maritime’s El Faro.
Speaking to the agency’s Marine Board of Investigation into the deadly 2015 sinking, Capt David Flaherty said that in one inspection in December 2015, inspectors found corroded and missing pipes on the 5,330-lane-metre El Yunque (built 1976), as well as problems with the sprinkler and carbon dioxide systems.
