No naval intervention was required as quick-thinking crew of an Irish tanker foiled a pirate hijack attempt an incredible 1,000 miles from the Somali coast.



The case of the 45,800-dwt Ardmore Seafarer (built 2004) escape has once again highlighted the effectiveness of ships having secure compartments or ‘citadels’ onboard in pirate-infested waters.



TradeWinds reported on Wednesday morning that the Marshall Islands-flagged products tanker, owned by Ardmore Shipping, had managed to survive an attack in the Somali Basin on Tuesday.
