Costa Concordia ’s captain has reportedly admitted a navigational error ahead of the grounding that has killed at least 11 people off Italy.
According to court testimony seen by La Repubblica newspaper, Francesco Schettino said he knew the waters around Giglio, but turned too late to avoid rocks.
He admitted he was going close to the island to salute a colleague with whom he was talking on the phone at the time of Friday night’s catastrophic crash.
