The second and third mate of El Faro separately suggested course corrections to avoid proximity with the eye of Hurricane Joaquin, but the vessel continued on its path toward what would be the site of its sinking, new data shows.
A transcript of bridge audio from the voyage data recorder also shows that the vessel’s master, Capt Michael Davidson, stayed on the bridge until the final recorded moments of the incident, as he urged a panicked helmsman to escape to safety.
