A Greek reefer has been abandoned by its crew in the South Atlantic after taking on water.
Baltmed Reefer Services told the MercoPress news agency that the 520,787-cbf Uruguay Reefer (built 1993) suffered serious sea ingress into cargo holds on 5 May and tried to reach the Falkland Islands for emergency repairs.
But the crew of 42 were unable to stop the water coming in and transferred to another Baltmed vessel on Sunday.
