Hospital and coastguard sources in Rhodes are confirming the death of one Ukrainian seaman of the 5,400-dwt general cargoship Svyatogor (built 1990, ex-Pyotr Strelkov).
The man had been rushed to hospital in a state of coma earlier this week. Another two Ukrainian crewmembers of the ship were subsequently also hospitalised after temporarily losing their eyesight. They have since been released.
A high level of methanol was found in the seafarers’ blood, one local source told TradeWinds.
