Irish newcomer Ardmore Shipping has had its first brush with Somali pirates as one of its tankers was attacked on Tuesday.
The Tony Gurnee-led owner’s 45,800-dwt Ardmore Seafarer (built 2004) was assaulted in the northern part of the Somali Basin, an informed source told TradeWinds.
The Marshall Islands-flagged products tanker managed to evade capture in the late afternoon attack, however.
It is not known if any shots were fired in the incident although there are no reports of any injuries to the unspecified number of crew members.
