A record number of crew members were taken hostage by pirates last year with Somalia inevitably grabbing the headlines, a maritime report claims.
Incidents off Indonesia, Bangladesh and the South China Sea also ballooned but pirates are becoming less successful in the Gulf of Aden, the International Maritime Bureau (IMB) writes.
A total of 1,181 seafarers were abducted worldwide in 2010 up from 1,050 the year before and a massive increase in the 188 taken in 2006.
