Slow steaming will come through the back door as part of efforts to reduce shipping’s carbon footprint, even though the IMO has so far rebuffed calls to make it a mandatory measure.
Several high-level Greek shipowners expressed that view during Capital Link's Cyprus Shipping Forum in Limassol on 25 February.
“Slow steaming will not be what they [IMO] will ask us to do, but that’s what we will do,” Star Bulk Carriers chief executive Petros Pappas told the conference.
